Moussaka is a traditional eggplant-based dish in the Balkans and the Middle East. The Greek version has layers of ground lamb or beef, sliced aubergine and tomato, topped with a white sauce and baked.
Baklava is a rich, sweet pastry found in many Middle Eastern, South Asian and Balkan cuisines. It is made of chopped nuts, usually walnuts or pistachios, layered with phyllo pastry, sweetened with sugar or honey syrup.
Spanakopita is a Greek spinach pie made with cooked spinach, phyllo pastry, butter, olive oil, green onions, egg, seasoning and sometimes feta cheese.
Greek salad, "village salad", is a salad made in the Greek fashion and is one of the standard components of a traditional meal.
