Description

Overview of Men's Liberation

There is a large and growing movement of men who are active in overcoming the harmful effects of patriarchy and gender roles on men as well as working to end the oppression of females. "The men's movement, like most social movements, comprises a number of streams, intersecting in a variety of ways, sometimes opposing each other. These streams are a pro-feminist stream, a men's liberation stream, an anti-sexist or masculist stream, a mythopoetic stream and a men's / fathers' rights stream" [1] Wikipedia Encyclopedia

With many social movements, there are criticisms from other groups. Feminists or pro-femitist men hold that father's rights groups at times seem to seek to entrench patriarchy and oppose the advances made by many women in society. Pro-feminists seek the men's rights movement and father's rights movement as the most extreme part of the broader men's movement. They also believe that "many men join those more extreme groups as the result of negative personal experience during a divorce or custdy battle" ( Men's Liberation) The focus of this website will be on the pro-feminist stream which helps the overall movement of anti-sexism.
