Background Information

That's me, captured by my adroit brother.

I am a Dickinson student who hails all the way from Singapore. Being far from home, I have left a very familiar environment and thrust myself into a foreign land. I am growing into my new settings, and hopefully I would be making good use of my time here.

For one, I am not a life-long Christian. Rather, I was a real doubter of Christ before I got to know Him, and it was only at about September 2005 I chose to accept Christ in my life. If you are interested, my testimony can be found here.

According to the Chinese Zodiac, I am an 'ox' or just a cow. Something to note: Chinese Zodiacs are based on the Chinese lunar calendar, and they are divided by lunar new years, which doesn't follow the Gregorian one. For the year 1986, most of the people born on 1986 are 'tigers', but I am an ox as I was born before the lunar new year, making me a lunar year older and an ox. Not sure how true these zodiacs are.

My Chinese dialect is 'Cantonese'. Roughly speaking, they are sometimes referred to as the 'Italians of the East'. The Cantonese don't share the manners of their Northern cousins, and their cuisine is renowned worldwide. Hong Kong is a strong example of great Cantonese cuisine.

Language-wise, I have formally learned English and Chinese for all 12 years of school. However, that does not exactly mean I have mastered both of them. Rather, my Chinese has suffered quite a bit due to my over-relience on English. But if you talked in Chinese, I should be able to comprehend.

My Country, Singapore

The Singapore Flag

Not too many people know about Singapore, as she is a small country located in South East Asia, at the tip of the Malaysian Peninsula. Like Hong Kong, Singapore was a former British Colony and a trade center. But that's probably where the similarities stop between those 2 territories.

With a population of 4 million, Singapore has managed to rise up from Third World status and now boasts a high standard of living, and continues to play an active role on the internatinal stage. Furthermore, Singapore has a variegated society, with mainly 4 races sharing the same citizenship. They are namely the Chinese, Malays, Indians and Eurasians.

Practically speaking, I have grown up all my life in Singapore. It is a nice country to grow up in. Education system is sound, crime rate is low, there is a stable government, and great food are just some of the factors.

Stress is a huge factor in school, as the students are pushed really hard to achieve results. Well, Singapore only has human resources (and no natural resources to speak) to depend on for her survival, and I am not suprised that some would not find living in 'Stressful Singapore' their cup of tea.

My Home

Cairnhill Plaza

Currently, my family lives in Cairnhill Plaza, a condominuim nicely situated on the outskirts of Orchard Road, a popular shopping destination. Also, my aunt and grandfather live in the same block, a few floors below my family.

Cairnhill Plaza has been home for me for about 8 years. The apartment has enough room to accomodate my whole family, and we have no plans to move out.

For more information on where I live now, please go to this page.
