Michael Kimmel's ''Inequality & Difference'' touches
Michael Kimmel's ''Inequality & Difference'' touches on the social, political and institutional structures that and discusses the gender role theory.  Kimmel says that gender revolves around these themes- identity, interaction, and institution- in the production of gender difference and the reproduction of gender inequality. ([[Anti-Sexism Sources | Kimmel]], 102)  Here are highlights of a few issues that can help to educatate men and women and promote anti-sexism.

Socially and Individual Interactions-  Rape can be used as an example of how there are gender differences due to interactions, such as rape, on the social and individual level.  Kimmel says, "Women may deal with rape as idividuals, but rape affects all women... It is the action of a man against a woman.  it is sustained by a cultural apparatus that interprets it as legitimate adn justified.  It keeps women in a position of vulnerabiliyt as potential targets" ( [[Anti-Sexism Sources | Kimmel]], 112).

Politically- Some women have in been in political offies, but are deemed as "unlady like".  Kimmel says that part of the reason why is that "the office itself demands a certain type of behavior, independent of teh gender or the person who holds it...Men and women have to express certain traits to occupy a political office, and his or her failure to do so will make the office holder seem ineffetive and imcompetent." Description

Michael Kimmel's Inequality & Difference touches on the social, political and institutional structures that and discusses the gender role theory. Kimmel says that gender revolves around these themes- identity, interaction, and institution- in the production of gender difference and the reproduction of gender inequality. ( Kimmel, 102) Here are highlights of a few issues that can help to educatate men and women and promote anti-sexism.

It keeps women in a position of vulnerabiliyt as potential targets" ( Kimmel, 112).

Politically- Some women have in been in political offies, but are deemed as "unlady like". Kimmel says that part of the reason why is that "the office itself demands a certain type of behavior, independent of teh gender or the person who holds it...Men and women have to express certain traits to occupy a political office, and his or her failure to do so will make the office holder seem ineffetive and imcompetent." [1]

Institutions- Kimmel states, "Institutions themselves express a logic- a dynamic- that reproduces gender relations between women and men and the gender order of hierarchy and power" ( Kimmel, 102). Not only do individuals have personal identities within gendered institutions, but the institutions create gender differences that we see as normal of individuals.
