Tariffs have played a crucial role in the past and present time for the United States.  The concept of tariffs were being implemented beginning in the 1800's.  Over this century, the average tax rates on tariffs have fluctuated a great deal leading into the Hawley-Smoot tariff in 1930.  It is intriguing to note the role that tariffs have played in dealing with significant historical events, such as conflicts.  In our presentation, we will provide you with an overview of tariffs and its effects on arguably the most note-worthy tariff of history, the Hawley-Smoot tariff.  We will focus our presentation on the implications of the Hawley-Smoot tariff and the controversy and perspectives that were created from it.
