Joaquín Guerreiro: Cuando terminé la escuela la compañía había puesto una beca a los mejores alumnos. Y fui becado para ir al Colegio Deán Funes. ¿Sabés cuál es el Colegio Deá Funes, el que está en Km 3, ese edificio enorme al lado de una iglesia? Bueno, ahí había unos grandes talleres. Y ahí se recibían de ...(others offer ideas ) no, no ... de oficiales mecánicos, oficiales torneros, oficiales carpinteros y oficiales herreros, oficiales fundidores.. ¿No? Y bueno, cinco años y me recibí de oficial de mecánico de auto y como, y cuando terminé, empecé a trabajar en Astra y al año quise progresar un poco más.


Joaquín Guerreiro: Ah...los primeros días.. Yo me acuerdo que nos sentaron, bueno todos con miedo por primer grado y me tocó al lado un rubiecito de origen alemán, ¿no? Y lo primero que hicimos era de pelearnos. Y yo le quise borrar la cara y él me clavó un lápiz. Y esa fue la primer pelea. Y fue uno de mis mejores amigos. Pero de eso me acuerdo. Y yo tengo un agujerito por acá [señalando la oreja] de nacimiento y él decía que me lo hizo con el lápiz. Kunz.
MB: ¿Cómo fue que empezó a trabajar en Astra?


Marcelo Borges: Y Ud.?
: Claro, yo terminé de estudiar la secundaria, esos cinco años, y Astra me tomó, me tomó, porque ellos me habían becado, entonces me tomaron.


Rosa Guerreiro: Yo... muy tímida porque no conocía nadie, me daba vergüenza de hablar, no sabía hablar castellano... así que hasta que no aprendí un poco, me costaba.  
Joaquín Guerreiro: When I finished school the companies had fellowships or scholarships for the best students and I was awarded a scholarship to go to Dean Funes school. Do you know which one is the Dean Funes school , the one in Km. 3, that big building next to a church? Ok,...there were big workshops there. And there they were trained as technicians in mechanics, lathe making, carpentry, as smiths, and foundry technicians. Do you know which one it is, the school that is outside of Km. 3? A big, big building (church), well it’s right there when you arrive. So, after five years, I received a diploma as an auto mechanic and when I finished I started to work in Astra and after a year I wanted to progress a little more.  


MB: ¿Y cómo fue el... aprender el castellano?
Marcelo Borges: ¿How is it that you began to work in Astra?


RG: Me ayudó mucho el maestro. En los recreos siempre nos quedábamos en el salón y me enseñaba a pronunciar bien. Balbuena... me enseñaba a pronunciar.
JG: Well, first I studied in the secondary school, those five years, and Astra hired me because they had given me a scholarship. Therefore, they hired me.  


JG: Los maestros que teníamos en Astra venían... uno venía de Catamarca a dar clases y cuando llegaba las vacaciones se iba a Catamarca...

JG: ...y volvía a los tres meses otra vez a dar clases... solo, no tenía familia, nada. Y el otro venía...

Joaquin Guerreiro: Ah..The first days...I remember that we sat down, everyone nervous about the first grade and next to me was a blond haired boy who was German. Ok, and the first thing that we did was get into a fight. And I was thinking about hitting his face and he poked me with a pencil. And I have this freckle, right here (pointing to his ear) from birth, and he said that he made that mark with the pencil! Kunz.
 
Marcelo Borges: And you?

Rosa Guerreiero: The teacher helped me a lot. We always stayed in the classroom area and he taught me how to pronounce well. Balbuena...he taught me how to pronounce.
 
JG: The teachers that we had in Astra came...one came from Catamarca and taught classes and during vacation he returned to Catamarca.
 
Antonio Torres: And the other teacher from Corrientes.
 
JG: ...and he returned after three months and taught classes again. He didn’t have a family, nothing. He came alone. And the other came...
