Revision as of 03:10, 19 September 2007
This section is about what I would be generally doing presently.
Right now I am an international freshman in Dickinson College, and I would be graduating in 2011 (if everything goes fine). Also, I have signed up for the college's Pre-health program, which would lead to a place in a medical school. It is a tough program but I am assured that pre-health students have a capable support team and knowledgable advisors.
Don't ask me what major I am intersted in. I have no idea yet, and that's good I suppose being in a liberal arts college.
Academics
The subjects I am taking are listed below, followed by the instructors of the course:
1. First-Year Seminar: 'Tell Me Why: The Role of Information in Society'
- Christine Bombaro
2. Chemistry 141: Foundations in Chemistry
- Prof Kristi J. Humphreys and Prof Sarah K. St Angelo
3. Biology 123: Interactions of Plants, Animals and Fungi
- Prof Carol C. Loeffler and Prof John K. Long
4. Maths 161: Calculus I
- Prof Lorelei M. Koss
Activities
Since I have come to Dickinson, I have been overawed by the sheer amount of clubs. I remember being told to focus on one and avoid spreading out for the sake of resume pumping action. So I try to follow that advice.
Right now, I am part of the Tritons, a new group of students formed to represent the college before prospective students and families. Well, it is very interesting to meet with different people, and even learn the true facets of the college's rich revolutionary history. Other events include Open Houses and overnights.
Also, I am planning to volunteer at a nearby medical center in town, as part of developing my interest in serving others through medicine. I have not gotten a slot yet, as I have just sent in my application. Primarily, I am very interested in working at the medical center to truly know how it is like, and determine if I am genuinely suited for medicine.
In additon, I am currently attending the Dickinson Christian Fellowship services on Friday. I am still new but the people there are quite warm and friendly. Have to see how I grow in there.
Not to forget, I spend a portion of my time working in the Dining Services. It is more of a job, and if you would to read about it, visit this page.
New Life Community Church
Attending a good church was one of my immediate goals when I first reached Carlisle. Beforehand, I even looked up churches from google.com and discussed it with my youth pastor.
I have started attending NLC (New Life Community Church, incidentally the same 3 letters as my church in Singapore), since my first weekend in Carlisle. The congregation is not huge (about 120), and regularly meet at the nearby Carlisle Theater every Sunday 10.00am. Churchgoers have warmly welcomed me into the church. Also, the pastors have preached sound theology and the service is contemporary in style.
Recently, I have attended a Small Group meeting held at a home near the college. It is part of the 40 Day WHY> Campaign, which deals with questions believers and non-believers should ask. All in all, it has been good. If you're interested, feel free to contact me.
My Dorm
Welcome to Room 114 of Adams' Hall, nestled comfortably within the scenic town of Carlisle. I share this great room (it has 2 windows and it is slightly larger than normal) with Eric. The second window makes a huge difference as we do not need to depend on the air-conditioner to have a cool room to rest in.
Adams' Hall has quite a good location and is located close to the Holland Union Building, coincidentally the hub of the college. It is where students go to for a wide variety of reasons, such as meals, mail or getting textbooks.
