Thomas C. Schelling was born April 14th 1921. Thomas Schelling recieved his bachelors of economics from the University of California, Berkley in 1944 and recieved his PhD in economics from Harvard University in 1951. After working at Havord University as a professor for twenty years, he is now working at the Univerity of Maryland, college park. He is considered one of the leaders in American Economics in the understanding of cooperation and conflict by utilizing game theory. Schelling has recieved numerious awards but is most noted for his published books "The Strategy of Conflict" and "Arms and Influence". | |||

History
The Vietnam War was a conflict between the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, who was allied with the Soviet Union and China, against the Republic of Vietnam, who was allied with Australia, Korea, and the United States. After the first Indochina War, Vietnam was split into two countries by an agreement negotiated at the Geneva Conference. North Vietnam became communist while South Vietnam became democratic. Starting in the late 1950’s, North Vietnam began covert operations to try to invade South Vietnam and make it communist. In an attempt to help prevent the spread of Communism President Eisenhower sent the first of many U.S. armed forces over to Vietnam on Feb. 12, 1955. U.S. involvement ended on January 17, 1973, by the signing of the Paris Peace Accord. This war officially ended U.S. involvement in the Vietnam conflict, marking the first loss in United States military history.
