Suffrage Struggle & Womens Liberation
Many of the earliest feminist protest songs were geared toward granting women the right to vote and equal civil rights for men and women. Many of the songs described the nation as an extended family. “Earlier women had asked for the vote on the basis of their humanity; now they demanded it on the basis of their maternity.”(4)
