Final Essays are now on Blackboard
Due date has been extended to the end of the week, which gives you 4 more days.
Trip to Cornell was very good -- ethnography of scholarship
- Actually involved applying some of Suchman's ideas
- Focusing on details in order to get at behavior (practice) and by-pass theorization about behavior

Community and Society
- Community = organic, local, relational → "families and churches"
- Society = artificial, political, individual → "citizens and governments"
A couple of points
- Economics -- the market and industrialization -- is the driver here
- Related to move from status to contract
- Money is the ultimate contract
How does Anderson's thesis fit into this?
- Nationalism is the appropriation of the concept of community at the social social level
- Because "society" per se has no "legitimacy" (no sacred propositions, to use Rappaport's terminology)
