National Council of Churches of Christ
The NCC was founded in 1950, and has since been the "leading force for ecumenical cooperation among Christians in the United States"NCC. The NCC's member faith groups range from "Protestant, Anglican, Orthodox, Evangelical, historic African American churches and Living Peace churches"NCC. In his welcome address on the NCC's website, General Secretary Rev. Dr. Robert W. Edgar states "Together we are embarked on a comprehensive, ten-year mobilization to address the issue of poverty, with local and regional councils of churches and wonderful national partners such as Habitat for Humanity, Children's Defense Fund, Families USA, and Call to Renewal. At the same time, we are reaching out with other Christian groups to join hands in building a larger, more inclusive ecumenical table for the 21st century." [1]
