Muslim Students Association
Mission Statement
The Muslim Student Association aims to educate Dickinson College and the Carlisle community about Islam. The Muslim Student Association is dedicated to spreading and promoting awareness and understanding of the traditions, cultures, beliefs inherent in Islam, and the Muslim Ummah, as well as providing a support group for Muslims and a medium for non-Muslims to learn more about all matters pertaining to Islam. This mission statement can be viewed on line here.
Events
One of MSA's most important events is the Fast-A-Thon. This event was tremendously successful; over 500 students, faculty and administrators participated by either fasting or donating. Approximately 200 Dickinsonians fasted, and over $1500 was raised. The MSA was able to cross boundaries by working with several student organizations, administrative and academic departments, sororities and fraternities in engaging students in the Fast-A-Thon. The purpose was to appreciate things like the swipe of a card that many people in the world do not have the luxury of, also to raise awareness for Ramadan, the month of fasting, when Muslims discipline themselves and reflect on their lives and dedicate them to God. This fundraiser helped to raise money for the people at Dillard and Xavier Universities to get back on their feet but also to provide them with simple everyday items like food and water. | |
Dancers at the Flavors of the Caribbean Dinner |
The MSA holds Dinner events as well as academic presentations such as 'Islam in America.' They have had events with Hillel, the Dance Theatre Group (DTG), the Middle Eastern Club and the Muslim Student Association for events such as Dance workshops. They also participate in an array of other multi-cultural events.
