Joaquín Guerreiro: Cuando terminé la escuela la compañía había puesto una beca a los mejores alumnos. Y fui becado para ir al Colegio Deán Funes. ¿Sabés cuál es el Colegio Deá Funes, el que está en Km 3, ese edificio enorme al lado de una iglesia? Bueno, ahí había unos grandes talleres. Y ahí se recibían de ...(others offer ideas ) no, no ... de oficiales mecánicos, oficiales torneros, oficiales carpinteros y oficiales herreros, oficiales fundidores.. ¿No? Y bueno, cinco años y me recibí de oficial de mecánico de auto y como, y cuando terminé, empecé a trabajar en Astra y al año quise progresar un poco más.
MB: ¿Cómo fue que empezó a trabajar en Astra?
- Claro, yo terminé de estudiar la secundaria, esos cinco años, y Astra me tomó, me tomó, porque ellos me habían becado, entonces me tomaron.
Joaquín Guerreiro: When I finished school the companies had fellowships or scholarships for the best students and I was awarded a scholarship to go to Dean Funes school. Do you know which one is the Dean Funes school , the one in Km. 3, that big building next to a church? Ok,...there were big workshops there. And there they were trained as technicians in mechanics, lathe making, carpentry, as smiths, and foundry technicians. Do you know which one it is, the school that is outside of Km. 3? A big, big building (church), well it’s right there when you arrive. So, after five years, I received a diploma as an auto mechanic and when I finished I started to work in Astra and after a year I wanted to progress a little more.
Marcelo Borges: ¿How is it that you began to work in Astra?
JG: Well, first I studied in the secondary school, those five years, and Astra hired me because they had given me a scholarship. Therefore, they hired me.

J: Si. O cualquiera anécdota que se recuerde.
S: Bueno--- una vez, este, aca se - aca se jugaba mucho, la, este la tima como dices o sea, juegos asi de azar clandestino.
J: Oh.
S: Y la persona- la mayoria de los gringos jugaban. Y una vez este, vino la policia y los encontro en la mesa que estaban con la jugando, carta y con por plata no.
J: Si.
S: Y, ese muchacho, un señor que ya murrio, este lo, entonces la agarra la policia y los trae. Los trae caminando, y uno de los-- le habian quedado unos-- porque aca venian a la comisaria y sacaban toda la plata, entonces agaró este, el señor, y cuando venia al lado de la cancha, hay unos tamariscos ahi, agarro, sacó la plata, y la tiró. J: Si.
S: Para ver si les-claro
J: Ah ok.
S: Entonces el viento agarró y se la, se la metió en el lado del alambrado.Y alla con una policia dice, "Uds., porque estaban jugando". Y dice, "no estaban jugando por plata Uds. por dinero," dice, "no nos estaba jugando por chirolas." Por decir no-- Chirolas era por monedas estaban jugando.
J: Si.
S: Si.
M: (inaudible)
S: Después, fuimos a buscar la pla-- estaba otra vez ahi y creo que habia encontrado un billete que se habia quedado enganchado en la-si.
J: Si.
S: Si, eso siempre se jugaban mucho--- los gringos principalmente
J: Si.
S: Estas juegas
M: Que tipo de juegos hacía el resto que, los argentinos, los chilenos-
S: No, aca no - lo principal era el futbol, porque la cancha de tenis jugaban algunos, sea, la cancha de tenis era de los empleados nada mas.
M: Ah si.
S: Entonces ¿? está aca. Ellos jugaban los empleados unicamente. ---Que ¿? algunas no le gustaba, este le juego se empezar jugar más sacar con la vi, la ¿? empezo hasta ¿?
J: Si.
S: Si, el tecnia aca
J: Y si alguien que no era empleado o podía , querria jugar, lo dejaban, o como era eso?
S: No, tiene que estar afiliado al club. Si no se afiliado cualquier. La mayoria donde- gente que trabajaba en alpucina ¿? entonces había un pocito de descriminacion había asi.
J: Or whatever anecdote that you can remember…
S: well…one time, like, here we, we played a lot, the, like, the tima, as you say, or, clandestined games.
J: Oh.
S: And the people…mostly gringos played. And one time, like, the police came and found them at the table that they were playing with, cards and for money, no?
J: Yes.
S: And this guy, a man who has since passed away, like he, then the police grabbed him and take them. They bring them walking, and then, one of them--some stayed--because here they come to the commissary and took out all the money. So then he grabbed, like, the man, and when he came next to the court, there were some tamariscs over there, grabbed, took out the money, and threw it so that…
J: Yes.
S: To see if they….of course.
J: Ah, ok.
S: So then, the wind caught up the money, and put it on the side of the alambrado. And there one policeman said "Why were you guys playing?". And he said, "We werent playing for money, you guys for money." He said, "no, we were playing for chirolas". That is to say, not--chirolas, it was for money that they were playing.
