What makes people happy?

Research has shown that there are seven main factors that make people happy. These factors include income, work, private life, community, health, freedom, and a philosophy of life. Table 1 measures how each factor affects happiness, holding other factors constant. The size of these effects is compared with the effect of income, so that when family income falls by a third relative to average income, happiness falls by 1 unit.
