Suffrage Struggle & Womens Liberation

Many of the earliest feminist protest songs were geared toward granting women the right to vote and equal civil rights for men and women. Many of the songs described the nation as an extended family. “Earlier women had asked for the vote on the basis of their humanity; now they demanded it on the basis of their maternity.”(4)

song lyrics:

With the modern invention of television, musicians have been able to add additional elements to their music composition. They are able to manipulate visual symbols to provide additional meanings to their songs. Artists are able to create a single song with multiple interpretations; this allows them to create non-normative sexual identities.
