Demonstration
We decided to run a practice of this very obvious game to demonstrate exactly that. How obvious it is. The theory that the game is testing is focal points (sometimes referred to as Schelling point). From our experiment it is clear to see that 14 / 18 people choose the white box rather than any other choice. This reinforces the effectiveness of focal points in making decisions. What is also interesting is that the other 4 people that did not choose the white box picked the top left box. It is possible that this is a second focal point, even though there is no significant reasoning behind it being one.
Even though not initially stated, we also ran a separate experiment without the classes knowledge. The placement of names on the paper was another piece of the experiment. It turned out that we got the same ratio for those that put their names on the top right hand part of their paper as picked the white box.
