The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is one of the strongest tools in the fight against poverty. The EITC is a refundable tax credit that is taken off of the taxes paid by low-income workers. The EITC began in 1975 and continues today, having gained strength with each subsequent tax bill passed since its inception.
