Hiking the AT in Pine Grove Furnace State Park
Where?
Pine Grove Furnace State Park, about 20 miles southwest of campus.
When?
Saturday, September 22, 2007, 10 am to 4:30 pm.
Who?
Kristen, Cam, Ben, Rob, Katie, Ariel, Gabrielle, Sarah, and Duncan.
Description:
Nine of us went down to Pine Grove, parking at Laurel Lake. We hiked the short but steep pitch up to Pole Steeple, where we were afforded awesome views over the valley and down the cliffs. We continued over Pole Steeple to the Appalachian Trail, which we followed for several miles down to Fuller Lake, passing the midpoint of the entire AT along the way and meeting Captain Bly, a section hiker who had done the whole southern section and was just starting his north. After eating lunch at Fuller Lake, we stopped at the Pine Grove General Store for ice cream. We then continued on old fire roads back towards Laurel Lake, where we enjoyed an awesome swim. We hiked about five miles in total, and had an awesome time!
