In David Punter's book, he writes of what Enlightenment is and its affect on modern society. In the Enlightenment period societies were irrevocably changed due to this new modern way of thinking, and the easiest example of this is America. Punter emphasizes that America is "the home of enlightenment" due to its being founded on principles that are unique to the world. In political and religious thought, America is the picture of enlightenment and a true example of modern thinking.
