Instructions:
1.Speak to any examiner and ask if you can do your exam. You will be given a certificate which you have to take to the Varrock Museum Curator (located just north of the east Varrock bank) to get signed.
2.Once it is signed head back to the examine centre and speak to one of the examiners. You will be given a level 1 exam which you will fail. In order to pass for the exam you will need to speak to other students to gain information.
3.Head north into the digsite, speak to the student with the green shirt. He will tell you that he has lost hes animal skull, he wants you to find it. Pickpocket the nearby Digsite Workman to find it. Use the skull on the student to get some information about the exam.
4.Walk in north-east direction to find the student with the red shirt. He will tell you that he lost a cup near the river. Head south and grab a Panning tray from the table in the tent. Go to the river and use the Panning tray on a panning point, the guide will stop you. To use the panning points ask the guide how you can be invited, he will tell you that you can use the panning points as much as you would like if you give him a cup of tea. If you had it in your inventory he will take it, now keep searching until you find the cup (use the panning tray on the panning point and then search it). Once you have found it use it on the student to gain some more information about the exam.

7.Speak to the examiner again to take your level 2 exam. You will have all the answers wrong just like before. Speak to each of the students to gather information, you will not need to do them a favour this time around, however.
8.When done with speaking to all the students again, head back and take your level 2 exam again.
The answers are as follows:
- Samples are transported in rough form, kept only in sealed containers.
- Finds must be carefully handled, and gloves worn.
- Always handle with care, strike the rock cleanly on its cleaving point.
9.Take the last exam, you will have all the answers wrong just as with the previous 2. Go back to talk with all the students, they will all give you information except for the student dressed in purple. She wants an opal, if you haven't got one already, you can pan one from the river. Head back to the examiner to take the last exam.
The answers are as follows:
- Samples cleaned and carried only in specimen jars.
- Brush carefully and slowly using short strokes.
- Handle bones carefully, and keep away from other samples.
When your runescape accounts have all 3 certificates, head over to the Museum Curator to show them to him. He will offer you a drink or something to eat.
10.Now that your done with the exams, you will have to find something to impress the experts so that you can use the winches. Go back into the Digsite, search the sacks for a specimen jar and pickpocket the Digsite Workman to obtain a specimen brush. Now head over to the most north eastern digsite, use your trowel on the soil until you find an Ancient talisman. Bring this talisman to the Archaeological Expert in the examine center to gain access to the dig shafts.
11.Search the bookshelves until you find a book about chemicals. Then go to the west digsite area (near the student dressed in purple) and try using the winch, if the person tells you that you still need to prove yourself, then use your invitation on one of the Workman walking around. Then use a rope on the winch and go down. Search the bricks, then go back up to the surface.
12.Go over to the winch just north east of the other one. Attach a rope to it and go down, now speak to Doug Deeping about how the rocks can be cleared. He will give you a key, go back to the surface.
13.Head south to the tent with the Panning Tray, use the key on the chest to obtain a Chemical powder. Go back outside to the barrels, use your trowel on the middle barrel to open it. Use your vial on it to obtain an Unindentified liquid. Head over to the Archaeological Expert to get both items indentified. The powder is "Ammonium Nitrate" and the liquid "Nitroglycerin".
Don't drop the vial with the liquid in it! It will damage you by a lot!
14.Go back to the tent, search the specimen tray for some charcoal. Use the charcoal with a pestle and mortar to obtain ground charcoal.
15.Go down the west winch again and grab an arcenia root from one of the two respawns. Then walk over to the bricks and do the following: use the Ammonium Nitrate with the Nitroglycerin, add the ground charcoal and finally the Arcenia Root. Use the Chemical Compound with the bricks and then the tinderbox to ignite the substance.
16.Enter the area you just blew your way into and grab the stone tablet. Use the stone tablet with the Archaeological Expert back in the examine center.
Congratulations, runescape quest completed!
