Minutes from the September 11, 2007 Outing Club Meeting

A smaller group (25) of members met and discussed a variety of things. They are summarized below:

  • An informal group of club members will be bouldering at Purgatory in Michaux State Forest on Friday afternoon. This will be a great opportunity for first-time boulderers. Almost 10 people are interested, and we will likely use personal vehicles to get there. We'll probably be back on campus before 7:00. Email lennonr@, kroftd@, or kostruba@ for more details.
  • There is a kayaking trip on Saturday the 15th on the Conodoguinet Creek. Eight people were interested, but we need a trip leader who is van certified. If we are unable to get one, the trip will happen the following weekend.
  • We will also have a hiking trip on Saturday the 22nd. The trip, to be led by Duncan (lennonr@), will run approximately 7 miles on the Appalachian Trail through Cumberland Valley (exact section to be decided). There was a significant amount of interest in this trip.
  • We have a beginner's climbing trip at White Rocks at Pond Bank on Saturday the 29th or Sunday the 30th of September. This trip will be appropriate for all interested climbers who have been certified to belay at the Kline rock wall.
  • There is also a fair amount of interest in overnight camping. We discussed a variety of options for camping locations, ranging from Michaux State Forest to Caledonia State Park to other parks further afield in PA and MD. Hopefully, we will be able to do this trip in October.
  • There is currently a lack of van-certified members in the club. If you have had your license for at least 2 years, please go sign up with DPS (in Kaufman) to get van certified. It's an hour long painless course and short quiz.
  • The New River Gorge climbing trip was also mentioned. Go to the Destinations page for more.
