Richard Layard


Peter Richard Grenville Layard (born on March 15, 1934)
Richard Layard, Founder-director of the London School of Economics (LSE) Centre for Economic Performance,was also a consultant to the Labour government from 1997-2001. Layard's work focuses on unemployment, inflation, inequality and education. Many of these ideas he relates to happiness. These ideas are found in his book, "Happiness: Lessons from a New Science" which was published in 2005. Along with Layard's book, Layard focuses three lectures covering his view on happiness and its impact on the economy. Over the course of Layard's career, he has founded the Employment Institute in 1985, was a Chairman of the European Commission's Macroeconomic Policy Group in the 1980's and has been a member of the LSE staff since 1964. As well as being involved in these organizations, Layard has also worked with schools.
