As the demand for skilled labor increases, economists have observed a growing gap gap between skilled workers and unskilled workers. Technological change has benefited skilled labor more than unskilled labor because skilled workers are more able to exploit new technologies. Technology has made it possible to eliminate some jobs performed by unskilled workers.
