This map shows France and its divisions as they were in 1789 at the focal point of the French Revolution. It looks much like the France that exists today with its various regions but they shifted much during the final years of the Revolution. Many of the regions maintained the same names they had previously but there were some changes in order to facilitate governing of these newly defined districts.
