This map is an example from a collection of historical French maps and shows France and its divisions as they were in 1789 at the focal point of the French Revolution. As a source, the maps help to visualize the changes that France went through throughout the French Revolution as its borders were moved and reassigned over the years. This one in particular looks much like the France that exists today but there are some differences. Many of the regions maintained the same names they had previously but there were some changes in order to facilitate the governing of these newly defined districts.
