Alice Denomie was born in approximately 1886 as a member of the Ojibwe tribe in Wisconsin. She became a student at the Carlisle Indian School and graduated from there in 1908. She then became a student at Conway Hall. She only stay at Dickinson for one year, however. She returned to her home in the West, married, and began working as a stenographer.
