Therapy Services Therapy services are available to children birth through 12 years of age. These services are offered in addition to those provided by school districts, Intermediate Unites, or Early Intervention programs. Payment arrangments can come from private sources or insurance policies. The team members are professionals who are dedicated to helping children with special needs. The hiring process for these therapists is very exclusive; credentials are very necessary.
- Occupational Therapy
- occupational therapists address motor and small muscle skills such as the use of the child's hands: during play, grasping and releasing, pre-writing, cutting, and manipulation of objects. They also focus on self-care skills such as dressing, feeding, and interaction with environments
- Physical Therapy
- physical therapists address gross motor and large muscle skills such as crawling, walking, standing, climbing, and jumping. The also work with strength, balance, flexibility, coordination, and endurance.
- Speech Therapy
- speech therapists address language skills such as vocabulary, following directions, word and sentence production, and the production of sounds in language. They also look at the child's interaction with adults and peers. The child's way of communication can include gesturing, signing, using pictures, talking, or using a communications device. Lastly, they look at feeding issues (difficulties with swallowing, managing textures, and behavioral issues.
