Feminist ideologies are applied to the notion of travel in numerous ways. One of the methods that women use travel is as a means to escape from the "private", or domestic, sphere of society and become an active participant of the "public sphere", which is represented as the road. The role that women assume in the public sphere is one of power, because they are essentially asserting their independence in a traditionally masculine space.
