Projects & Initiatives
The Social Justice Committee plans and promotes activities for its annual Week Without Violence during the 3rd week of October, and the Day of Committment for the Elimination of Racism during the last week of April.
Youth Leadership Conference
In May 2005, the Carlisle community came together to share ideas about implementing initiatives to eliminate racism. After hearing Mary, a defector from a Neo Nazi skinhead group, speak about how hate groups find alienated youth because they are easy prey, the YWCA decided to focus on youth. As part of the YWCA's Youth Leadership Conference (YLC) last fall, students from area high schools were asked to commit to reach out to at least one alienated fellow student during this school year.
Day of Commitment to Eliminate Racism
===Tree of Hope=== A tree was planted in conjunction with the YWCA's Day of Commitment to Eliminate Racism. The ceremony included Carlisle public school students, who read statements of hope that were written on purple ribbons.
